The announcement follows this week's Commonwealth Sport Ministers Meeting, where Ministers reaffirmed the growing role sport can play in advancing health, economic growth, sustainable development and social cohesion across the Commonwealth.

Taking place during CHOGM in November, the Summit will showcase successful initiatives from across the Commonwealth, strengthen collaboration between sectors and identify new opportunities for long-term investment and partnership. It will convene organisations from health, sport, business, international development, diplomacy and peacebuilding to explore how sport can deliver lasting social and economic impact.

Participants will have the opportunity to engage directly with senior leaders from across the Commonwealth, share innovative approaches, develop new partnerships and explore practical opportunities to scale programmes that improve lives through sport.

Commonwealth Sport President, Dr Donald Rukare, said: "Sport has a unique ability to bring people together, inspire young people and create opportunities that extend far beyond the field of play.

"This week's Commonwealth Sport Ministers Meeting reinforced the growing recognition that sport has an important contribution to make to national development, health, education and social cohesion.

"The Commonwealth Sport Summit will build on that momentum by bringing together leaders and partners who share an ambition to strengthen and sustain sport’s positive impact of sport across the Commonwealth.

“It will provide an opportunity to profile effective initiatives, develop new partnerships and advance practical support for approaches that can make a lasting difference in people’s lives.

"As we look towards the next century of Commonwealth Sport, we want sport to be recognised not simply for the moments it creates during competition, but for the year-round contribution it makes to healthier, stronger and more connected communities."

Speaking via video to the assembled delegation, Commonwealth Sport Special Envoy for CHOGM, Sir Viv Richards, said: “As someone who has experienced of the power of sport first hand, I can confidently say that sport is never just about what happens on the field, it's about the mutual respect, it's about opportunity, and it’s also about giving every person, not matter their age, gender, race or physical ability a chance to be included and believe in something bigger than themselves.

“Today you’ve spoken about the investment in young people, advancing gender equality, strengthening government and unlocking partnerships that turn ideas into real impact. These are not just commitments they are responsibilities.

“As we look ahead to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda this November, there is a real opportunity to strengthen the role of sport in building a more prosperous and inclusive Commonwealth. Let us continue to use sport not only to compete, but to build, to connect and to inspire."

The Commonwealth Sport Summit forms part of the official CHOGM 2026 programme and will take place in Antigua and Barbuda this November.

Participation will be by invitation. Organisations interested in attending or showcasing innovative programmes, partnerships or investment initiatives are invited to register their interest ahead of CHOGM here.
