Grenada joined the Commonwealth in 1974 and is the most southerly of the Windwards in the Eastern Caribbean. Its caribbean neighbours include St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.

The island attended all three Games in the 1970's including their debut in 1970 before returning to participate in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur. Medal success had eluded this small population until Melbourne in 2006 when Alleyne Francique lifted the track and field silver medal in the men's 400 metres. They delivered their best ever performance at Glasgow 2014, bringing home two medals thanks to a spectacular gold-medal win in the 400m by Kirani James, and a Decathlon Bronze from Kurt Felix.

The Grenada National Olympic Committee, formed and recognised in 1984, is responsible for organising their participation in the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games.
