Commonwealth Sport stands in solidarity with Guyana
Commonwealth Sport expresses its deepest condolences to the people of Guyana following the tragic loss of life aboard the MV Barima.
Commonwealth Sport fully recognises the significance of the national mourning period declared by the Government of Guyana from 22nd - 24th July, and respects the wish of the Guyana Commonwealth Games Association and its athletes to honour those who have lost their lives.
Team Guyana athletes and officials will wear black armbands as a mark of respect at today's Glasgow 2026 Opening Ceremony and during sports events tomorrow.
Commonwealth Sport's thoughts are with all those impacted at this difficult time, and it extends its wishes for a full recovery to those who were injured.
