The Regional Meeting saw delegates from 20 Commonwealth Nations and Territories, across the Americas and Caribbean regions, travel to Port of Spain, with strategy, events and future planning on the agenda.

Dame Louise Martin, President of the Commonwealth Games Federation, led the meeting, supported by Regional Vice-Presidents Judy Simons (Americas) and Fortuna Belrose (Caribbean), as well as Diane Henderson, President of the Trinidad and Tobago Commonwealth Games Association.

Workshops and extensive discussions were held on Commonwealth Sport’s new ten-year Strategic Plan, being launched later this year.  The Trinbago 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games was also a significant discussion point, as the twin-island nation prepares to welcome more than 1,000 athletes to its shores from 4-11 August.

Dame Louise said: “We have received a wonderful welcome from the people of Trinidad and Tobago as the nation prepares to open its arms to the Commonwealth.

“Preparations for the Youth Games are at the forefront of all our minds, and there is not long to wait until we see some of the best young athletes and para athletes in the Commonwealth showcasing their talents on an international stage later this year.

“From a wider perspective, we held engaging and stimulating discussions with our CGAs around our future strategy, which will underpin the direction of travel for the Commonwealth Sport Movement.”

Jeroen Weimar, CEO of Victoria 2026, delivered an update on progress in the Australian State, with the next Commonwealth Games now less than three years away.

The Regional Meetings are taking place in person for the first time since 2019. The CGF team has already presented to the African CGAs in Livingstone, Zambia, and met with representatives from Asia and Oceania in Brisbane, Australia.

The final Regional Meeting for CGAs in Europe will take place in London on 5 and 6 June.
