This year’s eqUIP workshop took place in Lobatse, Botswana over the course of 6 days - from November 6th to 11th, 2022. The eqUIP workshop was carried out to provide interns with the opportunity to network with each other, whilst providing dynamic training sessions that focused on both career and personal development to ensure that the current cohort of eqUIP interns get the very best out of the programme. It was the our development team that delivered the workshop which officially welcomed the new interns from across the Commonwealth.

The eqUIP Internship programme is an initiative of the Commonwealth Sport Foundation (CSF) that aims to offer youth across the Commonwealth with skills development and employment opportunity that supports CGA capacity building and empowers young leaders to make positive change in sport and their communities. In addition, the programme aims to build capacity in Commonwealth Games Associations (CGA) through a paid internship programme, developed in partnership with local universities as part of the CSF’s global development programme. It creates mutually beneficial opportunities for the intern and the host CGA - developing the skills of young leaders in a national sporting organisation, who deliver special projects which directly benefit the host CGA.

The workshop attendees were divided into two teams, namely, Team 14 with 11 interns and 7 supervisors attending from 4 regions (Africa, Americas, Caribbean & Europe). While Team 13 had 11 interns and 3 supervisors attending from both (Africa and the Caribbean). There were 20 CGAs that came together and attended the workshop, they were: Belize, Botswana, Cameroon, Dominica, England, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Northern Ireland, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Trinidad, and Tobago, Uganda, Wales, and Zambia.
