The Republic of Namibia became members of the Commonwealth in 1990 and formed a National Olympic Committee in the same year.

Since making their Games debut in 1994 in Victoria, Namibia has competed in every edition of the Games. Although the country is one of the driest and most sparesely populated countries on earth their medal haul is certainly not. The Games in Victoria in 1994 brought track and field success with the legendary Frankie Fredericks taking gold in the men's 200m final and a bronze in the 100m final. He also went on to win honours in Kuala Lumpur and reclaim the 200m title in Manchester in 2002. At the 2006 Games in Melbourne Jaref Uutoni continued the gold success by winning the Light Flyweight boxing class. A boxing silver and two bronze para-athletics at Glasgow 2014 ensured their overall medal tally continues to increase.

The Namibia National Olympic Committee is responsible for the country's participation at the Commonwealth Games and in the Commonwealth Youth Games.
