The Kingdom of Lesotho is a landlocked country, surrounded entirely by South Africa. They became members of the Commonwealth in 1966 and made their debut in the 1974 Commonwealth Games which were held in Christchurch, New Zealand. Since that debut they have taken part in every Games apart from Brisbane in 1982.

Lesotho won its first ever medal in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1998 taking the gold in the men's marathon whilst a boxing silver in Manchester was the highlight of the 2002 Games for the Mountain Kingdom. Another silver from the boxing ring followed in Melbourne in 2006 and at the 2014 Games in Glasgow, Lesotho took part in athletics, boxing, cycling, squash, swimming and table tennis.

The Lesotho National Olympic Committee was formally recognised in 1971 and is responsible for organising their participation at the Commonwealth Games and in the Commonwealth Youth Games.
