Gabon is a country on the Atlantic coast of Central Africa. Located on the equator, it is bordered by Equatorial Guinea to the northwest, Cameroon to the north, the Republic of the Congo on the east and south, and the Gulf of Guinea to the west. It has an area of nearly 270,000 square kilometres (100,000 sq mi) and an estimated population of 2.3 million people. The official language is French and Bantu ethnic groups constitute around 95% of the country's population. 

Gabon has sent Athletes to previous multi-sport events including the Olympics. The average team size at the summer Olympics has been between 3-8 with athletes competing in a range of sports including: Athletics, Judo, Swimming and Taekwondo, the exception being when 24 Athletes attended the 2012 games in London. It was here that Anthony Obame took silver in Taekwondo (men's +80 kg weight class) to win Gabon's only Olympic medal to date.
