Barbados have attended all Commonwealth Games since their first appearance at the 1954 Games held in Vancouver, Canada.

Since that time they have won host medals, across four sports: weightlifting, athletics, cycling and boxing. Their medal haul includes gold in weightlifting at the 1958 Games and athletics at the 1998 Games in Kuala Lumpur with a boxing bronze being their reward in Melbourne in 2006. Shane Brathwaite delivered a bronze medal for Barbados in the 110m Men’s Hurdles in Glasgow 2014.

Barbados became members of the Commonwealth in 1966 and is the most easterly of the Caribbean islands, sitting south of St Lucia, east of St Vincent and the Grenadines and north of Trinidad and Tobago.

The National Olympic Committee of Barbados, which looks after the interests of the Commonwealth Games, was formally recognised during 1955 and made its mark on the world of sport in weightlifting. This shifted towards athletics over time and extended to boxing and cycling. The National Olympic Committee of Barbados organises their participation in the Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth Youth Games.
